That is precisely where the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association® (CVMA) steps in.

The CVMA isn’t just a riding club; it is a nationwide brotherhood and sisterhood anchored by a singular, powerful motto: “Vets Helping Vets.”

Here is why joining the CVMA is one of the most rewarding decisions a combat veteran who loves to ride can make:

The CVMA Back Patch. Source: CVMA 20-8

1. Unmatched Brotherhood & Sisterhood

When you leave the military, you often lose the daily camaraderie of people who understand the unique highs and lows of deployment. The CVMA instantly restores that missing piece. You are surrounded by peers who have walked the same dirt, worn the body armor, and shared the same sacrifices. There is no need to explain your past; the person riding next to you already gets it.

2. A Mission-Driven Purpose

Many veterans miss the profound sense of purpose they felt while serving. CVMA provides a direct channel to give back. The association focuses heavily on supporting veteran charities, visiting VA hospitals, helping homeless veterans, and ensuring fallen heroes are honored properly. It allows you to continue serving your country, just from the back of a motorcycle.

3. Therapeutic Wind Therapy

There is a unique mental clarity that comes from being on two wheels—what riders call “wind therapy.” Combining the therapeutic nature of riding with a supportive group of fellow veterans creates a powerful environment for mental well-being and stress relief.

4. A Welcoming, Non-MC Culture

It is important to understand that the CVMA is a neutral association, not an “MC” (Motorcycle Club).

They do not claim territory.

They do not have a rigorous, traditional “prospecting” or hazing phase.

Their sole focus is on riding safely and supporting veterans.

This makes it an incredibly welcoming environment for veterans and their families without the complex politics of the traditional biker underworld.

5. Inclusion for the Whole Family

While Full Members must be combat veterans, the CVMA recognizes that military service impacts the entire household. Through Support Members (non-combat veterans) and Auxiliary Members (spouses), your loved ones can be an active part of the community, the rides, and the charity events.

CVMA Membership Requirements & Types

To join the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA) as a Full Member, you must be a combat veteran of a foreign war, provide a DD214 showing a combat award, and own a motorcycle of 500cc or larger.
